Colonists, Columbus, and Lies

The Story of America usually begins with a dramatic retelling of pilgrims cut through the Atlantic Ocean on The Mayflower. They fled their homes in Europe to overlook religious persecution, and they fought for survival in the harsh winters that followed. Sometimes the swear out they received from Native Americans is mentioned which always leads to an excruciatingly corny baloney about the first Thanksgiving. Sometimes the story starts even before with Columbus, a humble Spanish mariner who wondered of the world was genuinely flat. These American legends may be based in occurrence; however these stories of the pilgrims and Columbus be far from the entire truth.
The Pilgrims did permit Europe on The Mayflower to seek their religious emancipation in the vernal World. Though many of them died all during the journey, or shortly after landing on Plymouth rock candy they somehow managed to set up a successful resolution in New England with the help of a Native named Squanto. This story, however, is lovingly romanticized and simplified. There were actually two colonies, one in limn day Massachusetts, and an opposite in present day Virginia. A religious group called the Puritans populated the Northern settlement.



Their religion had double off of the Anglican Church and shared most of the tenants of Calvinism, a belief system based on the literal implication of the Bible that called for a very controlling theocracy. It is true that the Puritans left Europe to escape religious discrimination, but they refused to allow anyone who wasnt a part of their religion to live in or anywhere near their settlements. When, for instance Quakers, moved into town, the villagers ran them out. The colonists in are not represented by the stories either. They did not come to The New World to escape anything, but to find gold and other resources.
