In the UK, Ireland and Australia adult male chickens over the age of 12 months are primarily cognise as cocks, whereas in the States and Canada they are more commonly called roosters. Males under a grade old are cockerels.[7] Castrated roosters are called capons (surgical and chemical expurgation are now illegal in some part of the world). Domestic chickens are not capable of foresightful distance flight, although lighter birds are generally capable of riotous for short distances, such as over fences or into trees (where they would by nature roost).



Chickens may occasionally fly briefly to explore their surroundings, except generally do so only to flee sensed danger.
