28 November 1916
I had travel to Somme in France. I had arrived by ship, from Dover to France. I was feeling apprehensive, as I had go away my family at home, and worried about their safety as they were alone. I had been hearing rumours before you board the ship, it is your final time that you go forth be able to meet your family. This made me even to a greater extent worried, upset and disturbed as I have remaining my mother and two sisters at home, all alone, with no represent and no one is there to help them. My worries be take away at me, my heart is pounding like mad, my dead body is here but my mind is at home, wondering at my familys very single move to cypher if they are safe, secure and surviving. I feel that death is even impending than my hands. There is no way out.

20 December 1916
It is my source day at the Somme camp and it is iniquity time. It is freezing external; the land is white as a blank wear round of paper. They have allocated me a way with a bunk bed. The room is dark as the night, it haunting and howling at me as a symbol that death is waiting. There is no warmth, and during the night the temperature plummets to sub-zero temperatures and my body freezes like ice. They give us a curtain; it has hundred of holes, so my back becomes rigid and stiff as stick. Its hard to move.





25 February 1917
At breakfast the supreme French lady gave me porridge. I could not see that it was porridge as it was very runny like water. I could barely see the oats inside the porridge floating around. So instead of eating it I simply drank it. As I was drinking it, I recollect my mothers porridge. She would produce it in pure take out with no water she would put lots of sugar to make it sweet like honey. Suddenly the looming figure of Sergeant Michael casts a shadow over me and slams a long, bulging wooden disinvest in front me. Then Sergeant Michelle steps in and hands me a big bulging raffle and vow me to go into the trenches to fight against the enemy.
