A Friendly Place for a Friendly People, Shopping Malls

It is a place to hang out with your friends, look more than other folks your age, and maybe meet somebody new. Most young men and women hang out in groups near the movie theatres, even though the foot court is an additional well-known place. A 14-year old 8th grade girl known as Courtney told me that she and her friends are very brand conscious and like to see what other individuals are wearing as well as what the stores have to offer. Courtney and her close friends were dressed in the newest hip hugger jeans and midriff shirts, and to me they were trying to look like Britney Spears.

Courtney also likes the "freebies" some stores give out as well as the special events, but mostly she just likes hanging with her friends in a safe place.

The mall is perceived as a safe place as it is well lit, has several stores and a lot of foot traffic, and even security guards. If is also a safer and more convenient place to walk up to someone you're interested in and start a conversation, in particular compared to a club or bowling alley or a normal theater. Individuals at malls look more open, friendlier, and more trusting. I observed a young man ask a young blonde woman if she had witnessed a single of the movies that was playing; once she stated she had, he asked her if it was worth seeing and what she concept of it. I saw them using a cup of coffee together a smaller later. Over a other hand, a friend of mine started up a conversation by asking an attractive Asian girl is she could give him directio

ns to Bath & Human body Works as he had to buy a birthday produce for a party on Saturday night. She gave him directions, but was not interested in heading to the party with him. Still, he was not put off by her turning him down. He may well have been disappointed, but somehow his ego was protected by approaching her in the mall environment.

Congregating at the mall is perceived as a cool place to be, and you do not have to wonder in which to go or what to do on weekends and free of charge evenings; the mall offers plenty of opportunities to socialize: to see a movie, have a bite to eat, be with friends, and persons watchBto see and be seen. Mall goers are searching for a sense of self as well as a sense of community. Everyone finds it in a several way. I observed that some of the younger boys, about 10 or 11, seemed to be acquiring fun riding up and down the spiral escalators whilst shouting to every other. For me, the multicultural element of the mall is extremely appealing. Every ethnic group appears to be represented which creates me, coming from Japan, feel comfortable.

Contests and lost leaders and other come ones inform mall goers why the mall was manufactured in the first place. It is primarily a convenient place to shop, to purchase what you would like or on impulse buy what you do not need. In other words, malls encourage you to be a contemporary consumer. The San Francisco Shopping Centre Mall offers consumers a lot of buying choices. There are well known, upscale stores such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Vertigo, Kenneth Cole and BCBG.
